RESPECT FOR ONESELF AND OTHERS:
The child is responsible for his actions, words and decisions. He refuses to be intimidated, diminished, ridiculed or mistreated. To show respect to his classmates, he/she is punctual on a daily basis.
RESPECT FOR THE SCHOOL PERSONNEL AND THE SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT:
Students must address all adults formally. Politeness is expected at all times. The child circulates calmly and silently in the hallways during school hours.
L’École Marie Gibeau has implemented a system of positive reinforcement. At the beginning of the school year, each teacher designs a reward system and uses encouragement to increase desired behaviour. The schedule of reinforcement is determined by the teacher.
THE SCHOOL UNIFORM IS MANDATORY:
Please make sure to identify your child’s clothing items. It is the parents’ responsibility to ensure the cleanliness of the uniform. Black shoes are mandatory and should have non-marking soles. Socks should be of a colour that matches with the uniform (navy blue, grey or white for physical education). These can be found at MAISON PIACENTE or at another store.
LABELING YOUR CHILD’S BELONGINGS:
It is important to label your child’s clothing items and accessories, especially shoes, boots, mittens, scarves, shirts, hats and snowsuits. Since children play outside on a daily basis (in the morning and in the afternoon), we ask that you please consider the weather conditions and choose appropriate clothing for the season so that your child can truly enjoy being in the great outdoors.
SNACKS:
Children must bring one snack for the morning and one for the afternoon.
SECURITY:
All doors are secured and monitored by cameras. A 4-digit code will be given to you and will allow you to enter the establishment through the backyard. Do not disclose this code; it allows everyone to circulate in the school safely.
ATTENDANCE/LATE POLICY:
Parents who arrive after the closing time, which is 6 PM, must notify school administration as soon as possible. Please be respectful of the schedule.
Here are the quickest instructions to direct your call when trying to reach us at (450) 651-1131. When hearing « Bonjour, vous êtes bien à l’école Marie Gibeau…. », you can immediately press on:
1. to notify us of your child’s absence (preschool)
2. to notify us of your child’s absence and cancel school transportation services.
5. to notify us of your child’s absence (elementary). Please mention your child’s name and grade.
6. to reach elementary school administration (Mrs Gervais)

LUNCH TIME:
All children must have lunch at school. However, if you wish to pick up for child during lunch time, you must notify us as soon as possible. Usually, children bring their own lunch because it reminds them of the food smells of their own home. These meals are refrigerated, so no need for Ice Packs. Lunches may also include food that has to be heated in the microwave.
A catering service is also available. The lunch menus of the following month will be distributed during the last week of the current month and will also be available on www.lelunch.ca. You will only have to choose your child’s favourite meals and pay minimal fees using the Internet or directly at school.
We have children with a major peanut allergy. We strongly urge you to avoid putting in your child’s lunch box any food containing peanut butter or its derivatives, including nuts. We count on your cooperation and appreciate your support.
HEALTH:
In the interest of your child and companions, we ask that you keep your child at home if he/she has a fever, is infected with a gastrointestinal virus, is suffering from conjunctivitis, etc. Children affected by these conditions are usually not able to enjoy their day.
GAMES:
In order to avoid breakage or loss of your children’s favourite games, please note that it is forbidden to bring valuables such as an IPOD, a Gameboy, a mobile phone, etc. Please note that we are not responsible for lost items. We have a wide variety of games that children can benefit from here at school.
FOR PARENTS WHO BRING THEIR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL:
ARRIVAL:
We ask that you drop off your child in the backyard of 1331 rue Ste-Hélène. We invite you to encourage him/her to join friends in an autonomous manner, while still making sure that a school staff member has welcomed your child. If no adult is in sight, bring your child into the establishment personally. Please note that the door (schoolyard) will be locked at 8h30. After this time, make your way to the front entrance of the school (1331 rue Ste-Hélène).
DEPARTURE:
Please respect the schedule; your child is waiting for you.
At the end of classes, children play in the school yard. If weather conditions are not ideal, they will play in the gymnasium.
FOR PARENTS WHOSE CHILDREN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION SERVICES:
Parents must bring the child to the vehicle upon departure and pick him/her up upon arrival. The driver only exits the vehicle to greet the child and secure him/her with a seatbelt. For security reasons and to ensure punctuality, the driver stops in front of the door. When returning, we do not let the child exit the vehicle if an adult is not present. If no one comes to greet the child within a reasonable time (2 minutes), the driver must continue his journey and bring the child back to school.
IN THE MORNING…
THE RED CARD should be prominently displayed at the window when you want the vehicle to stop.
THE GREEN CARD must be placed prominently in the window when your child is sick (or other reasons) and you do not want the vehicle to stop.
FOOD:
Children should not eat in the vehicle.
CLOTHING:
In order for children to feel comfortable in the vehicle during Winter, we recommend that you do not dress them up too warmly.
However, children who take advantage of the school transportation services also want to enjoy the winter. It is therefore possible to leave a snowsuit at school during this period.
MESSAGES:
In order not to delay the transportation, please refrain from giving messages to the driver or your child. Instead, use your child’s agenda to make sure the teacher receives all messages, notes or reply coupons.
BIRTHDAYS:
Parents who wish to celebrate their child’s birth can do by sending a cake or small muffins/cupcakes to school. Please be mindful of allergies.
KEEP IN TOUCH:
For any information, change of address, complaints, comments or inquiries, please contact the school administration.
